For over a 120 years Cotswold Casements has provided quality steel windows and accessories to the construction industry and allied trades. In recent years we have been able to offer window information knowledge and experience direct to residential customers and to assist you we have listed the most commonly asked questions here.
Q. If I buy new windows do they need to be double glazed?
A. In order to comply with government building regulations document ‘L’ most new steel windows are manufactured as double glazed. When we install your windows we will provide you with a FENSA certificate Which in future will be required when you sell your property as part of the Home Information Pack.
If your property is listed, or in a conservation area however you may not find it necessary to install double glazed windows as standard. We recommend that you check with the conservation officer at your local authority who will advise you on your best course of action.
Q. What guarantees do I have on my new windows?
A. We provide a ten year FENSA approved guarantee on all of our new installations. If you maintain your windows regularly they will last the lifetime of the property.
Q. Are steel windows secure?
A. Steel windows are as strong, if not stronger than UPVC or aluminium windows. In addition Cotswold Casements provide locking handles, window locks and five lever door locks as standard.
Q. Are steel windows prone to rust?
A. All of Cotswold Casement products are treated with a hot dipped galvanized finish ensuring that they will not rust. Additionally we can provide a polyester powder coated finish in a range of colours, which with correct maintenance can last up to twenty five years.
Q. I have heard that steel windows are draughty?
A. Cotswold Casements fully draught proof all products with neoprene weather stripping fitted to the edge of each window.
Q. My house is a period style, can I get steel windows in the same style?
A. Cotswold Casements introduced its original range of steel windows in the twenties, and such is the durability of the style that all of these ranges are still manufactured today, so whatever the period of your property Cotswold Casement will be able to provide a product that will suit its character.
