Cotswold Casements can offer a range of steel windows that are fully compliant with Part 'L' of the new Building Regulations. Both Homelight 'L' and W40 are fully compliant with the requirements of Building Regulations Part 'L' April 2002. All of these windows are manufactured in England to British Standards. GUIDANCE NOTES - THE NEW BUILDING Regulations AND HOW PART L WILL AFFECT YOU. The Building Regulations control how you, your builder or your architect carries out construction work on your property. The Regulations that govern the design and type of windows and doors have been completely revised. This applies to windows + doors made from any material e.g steel, timber, aluminium or PVCu. The new Part 'L' (Conservation of Fuel and Power) Regulations became law on April 1, 2002. From that date onwards, if your home has steel windows and if you are planning an extension or alterations involving the use of steel windows, you will have to be aware of how the new Regulations may affect your plans. These notes are designed to help you to continue using steel windows with the confidence of knowing that you are meeting the requirements of the new law. 1. What are the new Regulations designed to achieve? Approved document Part 'L' of the Building Regulations is designed to increase the energy efficiency of buildings. 2. How will steel windows be affected? All windows, including those with frames made from steel, may have to comply with the requirements of Part 'L'. Previously the Regulations only covered windows being installed in new buildings. From now on, they will cover replacement windows in existing properties as well.
